3rd Master Hard Disk Error Fix
Posted on
Something happened this morning, guess the hard drive went bad but want to see if I can some salvage it to at least get data off it. Anyway here is what happened.
My mom wanted me to burn her a few cd's so I said ok and started to do so. Was using iTunes and burned the first one no problem. Went to start the 2nd and you could hear the drive spin up and get quite loud and would just hang while being spun up. I could still use the computer but iTunes was not responding all the while being spun up.
I held down the power button to shut it down, everything restarted and I tried to do it again.
Same thing as above happend, I tried to open the drive but couldn't get it open, couldn't close down iTunes either. I put a paper clip in the DVD drive hole to pop the tray open and the disc popped up when I did it and and kept the tray from opening all while bouncing around inside making a bunch of noise. Once again I held the power button down and shut it down. When it was trying to boot up I get the error... 3rd Master Hard Disk Error.
Thats about as far as I can go with it. I disabled the DVD drive and set the HDD as 1st boot priority but nothing changed.
From what I read the only way I may be able to fix it is with Bootfix or BootMDR but have never used either of these and am not exactly sure what I am doing.
Setup is XP Pro SP3 If I remember right. Its a SATA drive setup as IDE in the bios. Just one HDD which is a Seagate 500GB which is just over a year old. I have it partitioned into 2 seperate partitions, the first being C: for the OS and Program files and the 2nd one mostly for music, movies, storage and what not.
Considered possibly bringing it in but would like to try and figure it out myself incase something like this happens in the future.
Any help is would be greatly appreciated.

3rd Master Hard Disk Error Fix Software
Here's how to use CHKDSK in Windows 10. Command in Windows 10 will only display the disk’s status, and won’t fix any errors present on the volume. Scan & Fix Hard Drives with CHKDSK in. Jan 12, 2010 - I was told that this message - HARD DISK ERROR' could be the operating system as well. This worked fine for a day and then I get this black screen with 'MASTER HARD DISK ERROR. January 13th, 2010, 02:34 AM #3. They also have the AC'97 Codecs (software too, but I never used that for this fix).
